BOGOTÁ INDIE TROPICAL DANCE MADNESS

Just when you thought there was nothing else new and exciting coming out of Colombia’s tropical scene — here comes La Sonora Mazuren.

The band’s trad-to-the-future melty baileterapía is an el dorado of pan-Latin sonic wonders: Peruvian chicha, a form of cumbia driven by electric guitars, psych, and surf rock; synth-driven futurism a la Polibio Mayorga and Eblis Alvarez of the Meridian Brothers; accordion-driven guaracha and vallenato; Brazilian Tropicalia vibes and fuzz a la Os Mutantes; and naturally, Afro-Colombian polyrhythms galore.

The band’s second record, out this Fall, is called MAGNETISMO ANIMAL — an album themed on trance-inducing sound experimentation. Among the septet are our friends Diana Sanmiguel and Giovanna Mogollón from La Perla (from Season One).

WATCH

Deejay Theory holds court for the second half of the night, tracking some interstitial magic between Latin, Afro House, Moombahton and other global dance genres.

A New England native by way of San Francisco, Jake Krauth has been fearlessly carving his lane in music as a forward-thinking producer, DJ, label boss and all around badman/nice guy. Forever pushing the boundaries while always keeping the vibes, Theory approaches music through a universal lens sparking inspiration from all corners of the planet and dancefloors we share. His decade-plus span of highly sought-after remixes and custom edits have become go-to secret weapons for some of the highest profile DJs in the world.

His debut album “Everything is Energy” came out this Summer — the culmination of four years of cutting and cooking.

It has a new name, but you’ve probably been in this room before — in Season One, Deejay Theory knocked out a deeeeep Amapiano set before South Africa’s BCUC hit the stage.

The De La Luz Soundstage is a performing space located in the former Gateway City Arts complex. It’s the new home of Lighthouse, a school committed to giving young people the opportunity to design their own future.

We’re extra psyched to have Neftalí Duran in the house for a taco pop-up, so pull up hungry — doors at 7PM.

This show is produced in collaboration with Laudable Productions.
